Greetings. My name is Viscount Edward Zifran of Gendy. Some of you may know me. I have been in the SCA for awhile. I am proud to be able to serve as Kingdom Seneschal of the East.

Please feel free to contact me, seneschal@eastkingdom.org should you have any questions that fall within my office.

I would encourage all seneschals to print out a copy of the CURRENT EAST KINGDOM LAW and a copy of the GOVERNING DOCUMENTS OF THE SCA. I truly never want to hear from a seneschal "I didn't know that was in Kingdom Law". We, as seneschals, are charged with knowing the Law. Else how are we able to advise Their Majesties, Their Highnesses and their subjects, if we don't know it ourselves?

I am known as being a fair man, I am told. I strive for the truth and what is right in all matters. I hope that I will be able to inspire you and others to do this too.

SPECIAL, URGENT OR TIMELY ITEMS TO NOTE

The Incipient Canton Boise Ardent, as of January 17, 2006, is under suspension.

BACKGROUND CHECKS TO BE IMPLEMENTED, BEGINNING FEBRUARY 15, 2008

Announcement from the Board of Directors: "As was announced last year, the SCA is implementing a background check program to minimize risk of harm to our membership and to the organization.

This program will consist of conducting background checks --via a properly licensed vendor--on all persons wishing to serve in a leadership or supervisory position where minors are expected to be taking direction from--or be in the direct control of adults who are not their parent or legal guardian.

Officials who must receive the background check include (But are not limited to): Youth activities officers at all levels, Adults acting as youth marshals for any martial activity, persons organizing/in charge of youth activities for an event.

This program will be implemented on February 15, 2008. The Kingdom Seneschals will be informing those who need to undergo a background check of this requirement. Current officers who need to undergo a background check will have 4 weeks to return the appropriate paperwork or their warrants will be revoked.

The Kingdom Seneschals will be given more information as the implementation date gets closer. After the implementation date, you can direct questions to your Kingdom Seneschal. "

May 19, 2007 - New Revised youth Policy:

On May 19, 2007, the Society Seneschal issued a new ruling regarding youth in Our Society.

SECTION 11 OF EAST KINGDOM LAW - UPDATE
On December 8, 2006, I have updated a ruling on Section 11 of East Kingdom Law and the implementation thereof.
It is in the form of a MS-WORD document and may be found HERE. With the Implementation of Society wide background checks, Their Majesties will be correcting Section 11 of East Kingdom Law to be in compliance with corporate policies.

CURIA

The Curia of Their Majesties, Andreas and Gabriella, will be held at A Market day at Birka , January 25, 2008 in the Barony of Stonemarche. Please see the Pikestaff for directions to this event.
